Kids Activity and Drawing Book Giveaway from Woo Jr

Today I wanted to let you know about a great opportunity that I have had recently to review a couple of fantastic kids drawing and activity books and invite you to enter to win 8 different titles in this series of books.  

A couple weeks ago, I was sent The Drawing Book For Kids-365 daily things to draw, step-by-step, which is full of easy diagrams that show kids how to draw everything from frogs, and butterflies to Vampires and Robots.   I was also sent The Halloween Activity Book for kids, and The Christmas Activity Book for kids.  These activity books are full of coloring pages, word searches, dot to dot pictures, and more.  My kids took one look at the books and were so excited to get into them.  My daughter even exclaimed "yeah, I want to do one page everyday until Christmas", and then preceded to finish 5 pages!

My favorite of the three books that I received is definitely the The Drawing Book For Kids which shows kids how to draw 365 things complete with step-by-step directions.  My daughter loves to draw and right away she grabbed some paper and started to make Halloween cards by following the directions in the book to make pumpkins, ghosts, vampires, bats, etc..  

I also see how useful this book could be in my classroom.  My students love to make cards, and bookmarks when they are done their work and I have a bin of scrap paper just for all those fast-finishers.  The drawings included in this book cover a range of themes including Halloween, Christmas, Easter, animals, flowers, transportation and more, so it could easily be used all throughout the year.

Christmas Printables for Kindergarten Math and Literacy centers

Today I wanted to show off my latest set of printables, Christmas math and literacy centers for kindergarten.  It is available at Teachers Pay Teachers, and covers a variety of common core curriculum.

This package contains 8 literacy centers and 9 math centers as well as pocket chart cards in a Christmas theme. All of the activities are in black & white and I have provided some in color as well. These centers are great for Pre-k and kindergarten students and work on those core curriculum learning goals. These centers would also be fun for grade 1 students who need a little extra practice. 


Some of the outcomes covered in these centers include:

• identifying beginning letter sounds
• counting syllables

Winter snowmen clip art for commercial use

This week I uploaded a new winter snowmen clip art set.  I hope that you will find them useful.  I purposely made their bellies big so that they are ready for any text or images you might want to add to them.  This set is available to purchase in my tpt store.  It is available in color and black and white.

Kid made recycled keurig pod Christmas ornaments

This week the kids and I started on our Christmas crafts!  The kids love to make crafts and Christmas time is the perfect time to make holiday gifts, ornaments, tags, and wrapping paper.  This week we made recycled crafts.  I love my Keurig coffee machine but I have to admit I cringe every time I throw away the empty plastic coffee container.  So this week I saved a few containers and we made some fun ornaments.

To make this snowman we used 1 coffee pod and 1 styrofoam ball.

Before we attached the ball I poked an extra hole on the bottom of the coffee pod and attached a string for hanging.  We then made a hat by cutting a bit of felt and then glued the long side together to form the hat.

We attached the hat, and drew in eyes, nose (sticker), and mouth.  We then glued the head onto the coffee pod (we found a low heat glue gun worked best), added buttons and a ribbon for a scarf and ended up with some cute snowman!!

To make this snowman we used 3 coffee pods and threaded the string through the holes in the bottom of the coffee pods.  We tied a bead along the string after each pod to give it a layer look.  The kids added googly eyes, a nose and mouth and there we had another cutie snowman.

So after making our snowman the kids wanted to make a reindeer so I said sure.  We figured if we glued a pompom onto the bottom of the coffee pod it looked just like a reindeer.  We added some goodly eyes, poked pipe cleaner through the coffee pod for antlers and we ended up with some cute reindeer.

Now if I had planned it ahead of time, I would have painted the coffee pods brown, but since this was an on the fly type of craft we ended up with white reindeer.  We will probably try this one again and paint them brown.  Goodness knows I have lots of coffee pods around!!

Christmas themed homemade wrapping paper craft for toddlers

So have you finished all your shopping yet?  Baking? Decorating? How about wrapping?  There are so many things to do for Christmas that sometimes I forget to just slow down and soak it all in! 

I have been trying to include the kiddos in as many things as I can but that just means everything goes a lot slower and WHOLE lot messier, but it's all about creating memories and having fun!  The kiddos love to help me wrap presents.  In fact yesterday we went thru 5 rolls of tape!!  I have a feeling I might have to hand out scissors Christmas morning to get thru the layers of tape. The kids love to be a part of the gift giving and one of the easiest ways to involve them is to have them make their own homemade wrapping paper.  

We roll out some newsprint or use the back of some cheaper wrapping paper, and paint Christmas designs to create our own wrapping paper.  You can use stamps or hand prints or just let the kids go for it!  Grandparents especially love receiving gifts in homemade wrap!  Have fun!

Dear Santa...

Every year the kids leave Santa a snack which consists of a plate with cookies, a carrot for Rudolf, and a cup of chocolate milk.  We always put it in the same spot, in the corner on an end table.  And every year when the kids wake up they check to see if the snack is gone.  It is the first thing they do!  Even last year when Santa left two bikes sitting in front of the tree they didn't even notice because they were too worried about examining the plate for left-over crumbs!  Well this year J decided to leave a note for Santa.  He put it right where we leave the snack.  It's been there now for about 3 weeks.  Do you think someone is a little excited??  I don't know how he is going to make it all the way to Christmas!
